The sophisticated and exclusive Montreux on Lake Geneva is known for its mild climate, the subtropical vegetation and the magnificent Alpine panorama. Worth seeing are the parish church of St. Vincent, Castle Chatelard with the mighty main tower and the nearby Chillon Castle situated on a rock in Lake Geneva.

By paddlesteamer crossing Lake Geneva

At Geneva, where Rhône river leaves Lake Geneva, we board a Belle Epoque paddlesteamer of Compagnie Générale de Navigation sur le Lac Léman (CGN). Unfortunately, many paddle steamers have been taken out of service and scrapped in recent years. On Lake Geneva, however, some are still in good working condition today and so you can travel like people in the 'good old days' did. With a favorable timetable, you can travel from Geneva to Lausanne on one day and, after a short stay, catch the paddle steamer for the journey from Lausanne to Montreux and back. You will experience a day with attractive views of the towns and cities, numerous castles and private villas as well as the mountains surrounding the lake. Especially impressive is the journey along the wine terraces of the Lavaux from Lausanne to Vevey. The final highlight is the mighty castle of Chillon, towering up from the lake.
